Understanding Totality

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun, completely blocking the solar disk. For a few precious minutes, day becomes night, temperatures drop, and the Sun's ethereal corona becomes visible to the naked eye.

The 2027 Egypt eclipse is extraordinary because of its duration. Most total eclipses offer 2-3 minutes of totality. In Luxor, observers will experience over 6 minutes -- time to witness phenomena that normally flash by in seconds.
