Why Egypt in August?
Egypt's desert climate makes it one of the best locations on Earth for eclipse viewing. With clear-sky probabilities exceeding 95% at most sites, cloud cover is rarely a concern. The main consideration is heat management.
Clear Sky Probability by Location
Luxor: 97% clear sky, average 38°C, humidity 20%. Excellent conditions with dry desert air ensuring minimal haze.
Aswan: 98% clear sky, average 40°C, humidity 15%. Highest probability of clear skies in Egypt.
Abu Simbel: 99% clear sky, average 42°C, humidity 10%. Deep desert location -- virtually guaranteed clear skies.
Cairo/Giza: 92% clear sky, average 35°C, humidity 40%. Good conditions, slightly higher humidity than Upper Egypt.
Heat Preparation Tips
Drink 3-4 liters of water daily. Start hydrating days before eclipse day. Wear wide-brimmed hats, long sleeves, and SPF 50+ sunscreen. The eclipse occurs mid-morning when temperatures are still tolerable. Pack cooling towels, portable fans, and insulated water bottles.
